You will soon have the option of using an online service to prove your rights to others, including employers and landlords. This service will be gradually developed so it’s ready for use by the time you need to prove your status.
You will not get a paper document to prove your status and rights, as these documents can be open to fraud, and can be lost or stolen. Help will be available if you have difficulties using the online service.
You will not get a physical document unless both of the following apply:
- you’re from outside the EU; and
- you do not already have a biometric residence card
You will be provided with a link to your profile. You can view your status online by entering the number of the identity document you used in your application and your date of birth. A single-use code will be sent to your mobile phone number or email address that you provided in your application, so you can access your profile, this is similar to online banking. You do not need a username or password.
You’ll need to keep your details up to date to access your online status. If your contact details or identity document change you’ll be able to update them through your online profile.
