Updates on the settled status application system

UKCEN attended the Home Office Users representative Group on 27th April 2018. Home Office officials gave presentations on the progress they are making in developing the new settled status application system. It yet to  be finalised, but it is likely that there will be an online form which will ask three key questions;

  1. Are you an EU national?
  2. Is your period of residence 5 years or more?
  3. Do you have a criminal record?

To establish your identity, you will have the option of either sending in your passport or ID card by post, or using an App to check your identity document digitally if your document has a contactless chip. It has not been decided yet if there will be also be a face to face service.

The Home Office has an ongoing advertising and awareness campaign and encourages EU nationals to sign up to regular emails. 200,000 have signed up. You can sign up here: Sign up for email updates. Please note this is an automated subscription service similar to the one on this website, where you only need to provide a valid email address to receive updates and nothing else, it’s not a way to get your details registered with the Home Office.

The Home Office is currently working on a document setting out answers to Frequently Asked Questions and UKCEN will submit questions we believe, remain unanswered to date.
